Stoneleigh Garden Franklinia Pyramids
Jody Graff
$1,250.00
State: PA Country: USA
Dimensions: 5 x 5 x 1 Media: Paper base with hand-cut leaves applied [Franklinia glued to washi paper], linen thread, LED lights Artist Statement : The quilt design is inspired by the wide range of color Franklinia leaves exhibit in the fall. The 3D pyramid modules in tight formation create a dynamic contrast between the regimented geometry and the active surface of the Franklinia leaves. Leaf surface interior color variation and pronounced veining add additional interest and depth, which is exaggerated when the sculpture illuminates. The lighting is incremental and follows a cycle of non-lit, to fully lit, to non-lit and then repeats. The interior tab that secures the form becomes an additional graphic element when the forms are lit.
Each pyramid is formed from a hand-cut, flat pattern from a single Franklinia leaf. Once constructed, the dimensional modules are secured to the base with linen thread.

Ghost Riders at Dusk
Vugar Guliyev
$3,200.00
State: Virginia Country: United States
Dimensions: 36 x 36 x 1.5 Submission Url: Media: Oil paints on Canvas Artist Statement : My art is about people and how they deal with their everyday and global fears.
I am trying to understand human destinies and perceptions of each other, and how they will resist coming. How we evolved from naive, pure children to who we are today. How our attitude towards other people affects our essence, changing them. For as long as I can remember, I have loved to explore people and it helps me understand myself better. I like to distinguish human auras and show them in the picture in bright colors. Some people have a powerful spiritual energy that manifests itself in relationships with nature. I use nature in my work as a biography of these characters.
We were born in nature and we will return to it. Sometimes people seem too insignificant in the background, but sometimes nature itself brings it to the fore.
Painting each canvas, I live this moment in the life of those heroes who play the main role and visit those places again and again.

Although the shapes are simple, they convey emotional weight. Instead of brightening the picture, the background actually seems to further dim the already dark blues of the Lady. This piece reflects that heavy, yet brittle feeling, we get when things are just too much.

Retreat
Soon Ee Ngoh
$1,000.00
State: MS Country: U.S.A.
Dimensions: 9 x 9 Media: Ballpoint Pen on Bristol paper Artist Statement : I am a realist artist who draws predominantly from direct observation. The objects l portray are simultaneously literal and symbolic, transcending their corporeal roles to become metaphors. Consideration of formal elements is integral in my drawings. I am constantly investigating how form, value, color, and texture intersect and subsequently affect the overall resonance of the work. The ballpoint pen is my current choice of medium. With the ballpoint pen I can create a wide variety of color, texture, and value in my drawings. I build my marks slowly, layer upon layer, to create volumetric forms in a convincing space, hence achieving a realistic look in the work.
The submitted works were drawn from life except for the background, till the wee hours of many mornings while listening to 70’s and 80’s music on YouTube.
