Artist Statement : As an artist I want to express myself, my emotions, and my experiences while simultaneously allowing viewers to create stories using my work as a starting point. I have always been inspired by abstract work that leaves much open to the viewer’s imagination. Emotions are paramount in these pieces, along with a sense of movement – the movement paired with deep feelings tell stories about the complexity of being human. This piece was created during a time of great turmoil in my life -- awaiting answers in relation to a potential medical diagnosis while simultaneously being frustrated with my artistic process. The work represents rebirth and growth within tough times, limited by life circumstances.

Artist Statement : I grew up as a twin, with people distinguishing us as one person through gazes that later impact our identities. My sister became successful while I struggled with envy and substance abuse, blaming my environment instead of taking responsibility. I fixated on immaterial details from conversations, ensuring I was a victim and others were perpetrators. While I assume the role of an object in the painting, I am the victim. Nevertheless, when I am painting, I become the perpetrator. The resistive response to my sense of victimhood later invalidates my self-consciousness and provides a therapeutic context for my work.

Dimensions: 30 x 24 x 1.5
Media: Oil on Canvas
Artist Statement : Words matter. I've been thinking a lot about words, how numb we've become to the racist, misogynist, hateful words that public figures (and sometimes family and friends) speak, that barely raise an eyebrow anymore. I've been thinking about words of resistance. Girls Guns Gays & Theys employs color and lack of color to make a compelling image, drawing the viewer in to confront them with a message of resistance.

Dimensions: 24 x 10 x 10
Media: Stoneware, wood-fired
Artist Statement : A hand-built stoneware sculptural form, partially glazed and fired in a Noborigama wood kiln. The ceramic form is inspired by cacti, their resilience, fascinating defense mechanism and growth pattern. The lower part of the sculpture varied earthy tones is due to the directional nature of the wood firing (movement of ashes and fire and placement of artwork in the kiln), combined with the texture created on the surface and the choice of clay used to build the sculpture. The areole’s royal blue color with a regal association, connects the form’s lower earthy part to the upper skies.

Artist Statement : I was born with a crayon in my hand and began drawing human figures on my bedroom walls almost immediately. My obsession with depicting the human figure, clothed or unclothed, has not ceased since then, but now I primarily use oil paint. Also, the rich and vibrant colors I was drawn to as a child has not faded over time. I have added to my initial childhood attempts facial expressions and the importance of stance to my subjects with as much simplicity as possible. I have also expanded my subject matter beyond the human figure, on occasion.

Country: Mexico

Dimensions: 24 x 25 x 1.5
Submission Url:
Media: oil on canvas
Artist Statement : Focused on mortality, memory, music, and literature, my current work consists of separate but related series inspired by prehistoric cave art and a 15th c. Nahuatl poem about mortality that finds solace in flowers, song, and poetry. A dialogue between past and present informs my mark-making and use of color—strata mirroring the passage of time and the transient nature of human experience. I place a mark of color upon the canvas and then react to it. Every stroke calls forth the next as the painting shows the way, similar to how our lives unfold, one step leading us to the next. Marks might be fragmented or layered, creating visual palimpsests that evoke accumulation or erosion, the dissolution of a forgotten image. Or they suggest figures, flowers, trees that reflect life’s fragility and our interconnectedness, capturing the tension between presence and absence. My art explores the emotions of existence, tracing time’s passage, balancing sorrow with the joy of living.

Dimensions: 36 x 36 x 1.5
Media: Acrylic and Charcoal
Artist Statement : I think of my paintings as unfinished stories, whose relevance may change with every passing year. My art is an energetic and liberating form of storytelling. Painting brings me tremendous purpose and joy. I paint to lose myself, and find myself. This experience of being lost and found, of aspiration and acceptance, sums up my process. I paint with emotion, but I remain detached from my work. I work from an idea, experience or visual that inspires me to create a story around it. My medium being acrylic I enjoy the freedom it provides. I play with forms, lines and love to draw with paint. My work displays many layers, surface tension and textures that come together to tell a story. In my recent work I have included socially relevant themes, where I use drawings and simple applications to keep the focus on the message. It is my hope that these stories elicit diverse interpretations.
Dawn in June

Steven Marc Shapiro
$2,500.00

State: MD
Country: United States

Dimensions: 30 x 30 x 2.5
Media: Acrylic, ink and pencil on canvas.
Artist Statement : "Dawn in June" is one in a series of twelve abstract works exploring the relationship between structure and gesture in painting. This particular work was the inaugural piece in the series and as such it set the direction for many of the elements about which the series revolved: the methods and materials, the proportions and size of the support and the emotional content of the work. As the series progressed geometry, structure and architecture exerted larger influence over the content of the work. But like this the first in the series, each subsequent work found its connection to an internal, emotional landscape that evolved across the months and seasons of the year. Some of the works in the series are more playful, some more somber and still others more dream-like.

State: MD
Country: USA

Dimensions: 24 x 24 x 2

Artist Statement : My Geo Chroma series explores the emotional and psychological impact of color through abstract compositions that are both vibrant and intentional. Informed by evidence-based color theory, each work features harmonious palettes that are known to evoke calm, joy, clarity, and vitality. Soft blues encourage tranquility, warm corals uplift the spirit, and golden hues offer a sense of optimism. Gentle curves and layered forms echo natural rhythms, guiding the viewer’s eye and creating a sense of flow and ease. These pieces have soothing energy to foster a sense of balance and emotional well-being. My Geo Chroma series demonstrates how color can be a powerful tool to connect, heal, and transform.

Country: United States

Dimensions: 30 x 20 x 0.75
Media: Acrylic paint, glitter, plastic sprinkles on canvas
Artist Statement : This piece was created while my first pet rats were passing away. They are beautiful and sweet animals with very short lifespans. They came into my life so quickly, and just as quickly they were gone. During those times I really had to reflect on how this made me feel, I have come to the conclusion that every second I spent with the rats was special. I was their whole lives, and I knew they lived happily. They also helped me in so many ways. I still think about those rats every day, memories of them are held close to my heart.
