$1,300.00

State: VA
Country: United States

Dimensions: 24 x 24 x 1.5
Media: Ink, acrylic and pigment print on wood
Artist Statement : We humans view the world through a limited spectrum. But what if we had compound eyes like insects, sonar like dolphins, or even used scent to perceive our surroundings? I’m drawn to the space between the known and the unknown. Art is a doorway to the subconscious, and color opens the path. My artistic process is a journey through the colors that occur to my eyes, as composers would hear the notes in their ears. The process is spontaneous. It happens outside of the realm of self and intellect. Forms come in to represent the colors. More than an artist, I consider myself a medium to provide the observer (including myself) access to the unknown or the forgotten. My art is successful only when viewers see their story in it and connect to the self and the universe through it. Listening to what others see in my paintings, I am continually surprised by our shared collective memory.
Rejoice O Wind-up Bird
Rejoice O Wind-up Bird
Kate Barfield
$1,500.00

State: Maryland
Country: United States

Dimensions: 19 x 26 x 1
Media: Fused Glass
Artist Statement : I asked a friend -- what would a windup bird dream of? Why – a hand, he said. Of course! So, in this fused glass piece, I created a grey hand -- reaching down through mechanical clouds, poised to turn the key that will give this machine life. Our metal warbler is surrounded by a world of cogs and gears -- all lit up in color -- to radiate a sense of hope. And as the wind-up bird rises, it is accompanied by this rainbow of gears. Wheels within wheels - all hurrying towards heaven. On making this piece: I have synesthesia - which allows me to see specific colors in letters/words. I relied on these sensory instincts to spin the color wheel, creating combinations that shine with exuberance. Because color is the language of joy. All design elements were cut with a tabletop glass saw, then fitted together like a puzzle. I hope you like what you see.
Tribute to Ms. Lois Mailou Jones

$2,000.00

State: Maryland
Country: United States

Dimensions: 19 x 26 x 1.5
Media: Fused Glass
Artist Statement : This piece is an homage to Ms. Lois Mailou Jones -- a black, female artist who became a master of color and design, as well as a beloved teacher at Howard University for 47 years. I was introduced to Ms. Jones' work through a NYT article on lesser-known black artists. The article featured a 1930's fabric motif, which crystallized her signature style -- angular shapes, curves and a POW! of color. I immediately wanted to translate this image into glass. In developing my TRIBUTE, I began by studying Ms. Jones' use of color and the way she balanced angular lines with soft curves. I sought out opalescent colors that harmonized with her vision, including a base of Egyptian Blue. Then, using a humble ring saw, I cut the sharp and curved shapes, fitting each together like a puzzle. The result was lightly kiln-fired to preserve the crisp, abstract lines that Ms. Jones so favored. I hope I was able to capture her spirit. What I learned in making this piece guides my hand today.

State: Maryland
Country: United States

Dimensions: 15 x 15 x 0.5
Media: Alcohol Ink on Yupo Paper
Artist Statement : Art has long been my tool to process life's complexities. Each work becomes a snapshot of an internal journey, a tangible representation of the ever-shifting currents within. I see them as maps of unseen worlds. Each piece is a visual record of the changing spaces within the mind. They are unique portals into internal landscapes where vulnerability, complexity and connection coexist. I hope that when viewers encounter my work, they are encouraged to pause, breathe, and recognize their own inner landscapes looking back at them. In a fast-paced world, these moments of reflection feel like small acts of resistance. Spaces where vulnerability and connection can flourish. Through my work, I invite others to explore their own emotional landscapes and perhaps recognize something familiar within the currents I share.

Pictures of the Floating World
Joanne Bond

State: MD
Country: United States

Dimensions: 20 x 20 x 1.5
Submission Url:
Media: acrylic, mixed media, ink on canvas
Artist Statement : "Pictures of the Floating World" is a piece created for an album cover that uses disparate colors and images to convey the "liquidity" of a mysterious world of imagination, playfulness and fullness. During Japan's Edo period (1615–1868) the phrase "the floating world" (ukiyo) evoked an imagined universe of wit, stylishness, and extravagance—with overtones of naughtiness, hedonism, and transgression. This piece transforms this concept into a modern, yet still extravagant world of the imagination.

$525.00

State: DC
Country: USA

Dimensions: 20 x 25 x 1.5
Submission Url:
Media: no media
Artist Statement : I paint the world as I see it. I strive to draw attention to the fleeting natural beauty of the vanishing American Landscape and waterways due to over development, pollution and climate change. I applaud all the individuals and organizations who have fought for environmental rights, cleaning and protection of the many areas I depict in my work. I would hope that my paintings will remind audiences how very special our Landscapes and water ways are and pay tribute to all those who work so valiantly in these efforts. I paint these works in multiple layers applying color and texture. I then sand, strip and scrape the painting until it is abstracted, giving the viewer the mystical and haunting beauty found in nature. I particularly enjoy the play of light with Shadows and the subtracted details of the landscape which further recalls the fleeting fragility of nature and creates a feeling of the supernatural. All my work is Oil on Canvas Board or reclaimed board and are 100% Recycled.

$799.00

State: Virginia
Country: United States

Dimensions: 24 x 18 x 2

Artist Statement : "Blue Endurance II" shows the quiet strength we find when life gets tough. The broken pot reminds us of challenges we face, but a strong lemon plant growing from it proves we can still grow and keep going. The calming blue background brings a feeling of peace and stability, helping us stay grounded even when things are chaotic. A subtle snake print hints at the hidden difficulties we might encounter. This painting invites you to think about how true strength and beauty can come from any journey, no matter how hard.

Maybe it’s too bright.” With a stern look in her eyes, she said- “Mom don’t touch it!!!” I listened and I’m very glad that I did.
